Amazing. My favorite part of this story:

After he shoots the guys, everyone freaks out and runs out of the theater, he sits back down to finish the movie.

October 15, 2008

Ever wonder exactly how much moola it is going to cost on a road trip. Kim Komando sent out this link, and its pretty impressive.

Take your trip, plug in the specifics, including the make and model of your car, and this site will produce a gas cost estimate.

Helpful? Me thinks so.

Church Attendance Boosts Student GPAs
Friday, August 22, 2008
By Robert Roy Britt

If you want to boost your teenager’s grade point average, take the kid to church. Or, a new study suggests, find some similar social activity to involve them in.

Researchers found that church attendance has as much effect on a teen’s GPA as whether the parents earned a college degree. Students in grades 7 to 12 who went to church weekly also had lower dropout rates and felt more a part of their schools. On average, students whose parents received a four-year college degree average a GPA 0.12 higher than those whose parents completed only high school. Read the rest of this entry »

Sports bra saves hiker stranded in Alps

BERLIN, Germany (AP) — An American hiker stranded in the Bavarian Alps for nearly three days was rescued after using her sports bra as a signal, police in southern Germany said Monday.

Berchtesgaden police officer Lorenz Rasp said that he helped lift 24-year-old Jessica Bruinsma of Colorado to safety by helicopter on Thursday after she attracted the attention of lumberjacks by attaching her sports bra to a cable used to move timber down the mountain. “She’s a very smart girl, and she acted very resourcefully,” said Rasp. “She kept her shirt and jacket for warmth, but thought the sports bra could work as a signal.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Latest

June 21, 2008

In the spirit of a true blog, I’m just going to ramble , and share a bit of my life:

Today, my wife (Shantel) and I celebrated our 9th anniversary. Every year we go see two or more movies on one day. It’s tradition. This year we went to Opry Mills 20. We hit up the TGI Friday’s (Jack Daniel’s Burger- excellent) and then on to the movies. On our way… we were acosted by mall kiosk workers.

You get the picture.

I felt like I was being targeted for a military offensive. I couldn’t go left or right, without someone trying to spray something on me or clean my wife’s jewelry. I saw some bald dude getting his scalp scraped by the giant spider head scratcher that totally freaks me out. It was oppressive. Read the rest of this entry »

US probes teen ‘pregnancy pact’

Gloucester High School
Gloucester High School has seen an alarming rise in pregnancies. Officials in the US state of Massachusetts are investigating how 17 teenage girls from the same school have become pregnant.  The number is four times as high as the year before at Gloucester High School. There are reports that some of the girls – none of whom is older than 16 – entered into a pact to have their babies together. The girls and their families have so far made no comment.

Officials are also investigating the ages of the fathers. Some are believed to be in their twenties and could face the possibility of being charged with having sex with minors. It is illegal to have sex with anyone younger than 16 in Massachusetts. Disturbing. Read the rest of this entry »

Survey finds 37% of Gen Y-ers text while driving
by Darren Murph, posted May 2nd 2008 at 3:26PM

Oh sure, Americans are adamantly against texting while driving (in theory), but that’s not stopping those mischievous Gen Y-ers from getting their SMS on while behind the wheel. According to a new survey of 1,200 people conducted by Nationwide Mutual Insurance (we know, we know), a third of the Gen Y-ers admitted to “always multitasking while driving,” and while the “always” bit does indeed frighten us a tad, the real juice was in the next statistic: 37-percent said they sent text messages while driving. Before you start belaboring the imprudent youth, think long and hard about your own in-car cellphone usage — remember that time you just had to reply “y w pep plz” in order to salvage your friend’s pizza order? Tsk tsk.

At another college, professor Kent Gramm’s divorce from his wife of 30 years might be a private matter known only to friends and close colleagues. But at Wheaton College, the end of the popular English professor’s marriage has cost him his job—and sparked a debate about whether a divorce should disqualify a faculty member from teaching there.

Though the college has sometimes hired or retained staff employees whose marriages have ended, officials say those employees must talk with a staff member to determine whether the divorce meets Biblical standards. Gramm told administrators about his divorce but declined to discuss the details.

“I think it’s wrong to have to discuss your personal life with your employer,” he said, “and I also don’t want to be in a position of accusing my spouse, so I declined to appeal or discuss the matter in any way with my employer.” Officials say they were willing to allow Gramm—who has been at the school for 20 years—to remain at the college for another year as he sought work, but he declined.
